At the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, Lizzo received the Video for Good award. During her time on stage, she addressed young voters in the audience and addressed comedian Aries Spears’ previously publicized remarks about fat shame. The singer-songwriter defeated other finalists Stromae, Latto, Rina Sawayama and Kendrick Lamar to win the music video award for her song “About Damn Time”.
