Apple will unveil the newest iPhone in just over a week, and it looks like fans will have the option to choose from an eye-catching new color scheme.
An unverified video posted to social media shows what looks like a fake iPhone 14 with a shimmery finish.
When someone holds the device, rotates it in their hand, the case appears to change color when light hits it.
It quickly changes color from dark blue to purple, shimmering in the sun.
The video was posted on twitter by user @DuanRui after it went viral on Chinese social network Weibo last week.
They said that the purple color appears only when you hold the smartphone at certain angles.
It’s unclear how the person in the video got hold of the device, which remains under wraps before launch.
Apple has not confirmed that it is releasing the iPhone 14, but has announced that the annual September event will take place on 7.
The tech giant usually unveils the latest iPhone during an event held at its sprawling Cupertino campus.
A total of four new models are expected to be announced. Most likely, they will appear on the shelves at the end of September.
Leading up to the event, the number and quality of leaks increased, including the appearance of “dummy units” of the iPhone.
These are sent out to third parties to help them create screen protectors, cases, and more in time for launch.
They have the same shell as the final product, but without the innards. Photos and videos of dummy devices are often leaked ahead of the phone’s launch.
It is not clear how or where the person in the video obtained the stripped device in the video.
There is no way to check if a dummy block is real or a clever fake.
If true, this won’t be the first time a smartphone maker has used a color-changing design.
For example, the Honor View 20 boasts a vibrant V-shaped gradient that captures light from different angles.
Huawei, China’s largest smartphone maker, has released a range of eye-catching, shimmery devices.
Rival tech giant Vivo, on the other hand, has confirmed it is working on a phone that can change color on demand.
The gadget will come with “electrochromic glass” on the back, which changes the hue of the case at the touch of a button.
Rumors have been circulating for months that Apple is working on a purple version of the next iPhone.
The company is also expected to release the device in more traditional black and white colors.
