Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter

  • 1 cup light brown sugar

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon coarse sea salt

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped

  • Meldon sea salt flakes

Tools

Directions

  1. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Once it boils, stir constantly until the oil turns from foam to a dark amber color. Remove from heat and let cool for 20 minutes.

  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit while oil cools.

  3. Add light brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla, baking soda, sea salt, and chilled melted butter to a large bowl and stir to combine.

  4. Mix the flour to form a dough, then add the dark chocolate pieces.

  5. Using a tablespoon or ice cream scoop, transfer the batter to a baking sheet, spacing each scoop about 2 inches apart.

  6. Sprinkle each piece of dough with Maldon Flake Sea Salt, then refrigerate for about 15 minutes before baking.

  7. Bake the cookies for about 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or until the center of each cookie is set and the edges are lightly golden.

  8. After baking, remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
