ST. LOUIS. Hip-hop and pop are the most popular music genres in America, according to Internet marketing and search company My Telescope.
The company analyzed the number of Google searches for concert tickets for active touring musicians and provided a breakdown of the top performers or bands by state according to their “share of search”.
Search Share is a term for a marketing metric that measures interest in a particular search term relative to a specified set of search terms. According to My Telescope, search share can predict the change in popularity of a brand or, in this case, an artist or group.
“Search share is important because it provides a more accurate measure of consumer and business buying intent and demand,” said Rodrigo Gravis, CEO of My Telescope. “The data can be geofenced by state or country to accurately reflect geographic search trends. Combined with specific keywords, search data share can provide valuable insight into what people are going to do, what they think, how they feel, and what they are going to buy.”
Post Malone was named the most wanted musician in Show Me state as well as in Nebraska. Grammy Award winner Kendrick Lamar was voted the most popular artist in eight states, overtaking rapper Lil Durk, who won in five states.
Hip-hop and pop won 20 states each.
